Die 70-jährige New Yorker Ikone Patti Smith zelebrierte am 29.07.2017 eine herrliche Sommernacht auf der Zitadelle Mainz zusammen mit – „that´s not my usual band, that´s my unusual band“ – Tony Shanahan, Seb Rochford und „Who do you think that guy is? That´s my son“-Jackson Smith. Sie war: Kraftvoll, energisch, poetisch, rockig, witzig, kämpferisch, politisch, hustend („It´s not that i´m sick or anyhting, i´m just allergic against trees – although i love tress“), überraschend (Konzertpremiere für ihre Interpretation des U2-Songs „Mothers Of the Disappeared“), rezitierend, liebevoll, tanzend, hüpfend, plaudernd, herzlich, beschwörend, glücklich, stark, mitreißend, überzeugend … Patti has the power!
